Authentic Greek Salad Recipe: Fresh and Delicious Mediterranean Salad

Greek salad recipe
Are you a tomato lover? Then be excited, this post is just right for you. Because we are here with an amazing salad recipe, full of tomatoes- the
Greek salad!

It is one of the simplest salad dishes that you can make quickly, yet delicious.

If you are having friends coming over the weekend, or you want your kids to eat healthy veggies in a flavorful way, this dish is the right choice for you.

Nutritional Value of Greek Salad

There is a classic rule for Greek salad: there is no lettuce or leafy greens. Greek salad with lettuce is your own choice if you want to add some leaves for adding more ‘health’ factors to the recipe. However, it might not remain authentic anymore.

Don’t worry, by the way! Greek salad with lettuce would be a good option for those who are on a diet. The crunch of those fresh greens would be a special treat for weight watchers.

Are Greek salads healthy? YES! Salads of any kind are healthy. But why is Greek salad specifically good for health? Since it is full of nutrients and equally delicious for your taste buds.

Salads might appear boring to some. Still, traditional Greek salad is healthy as well as appetizing with fresh veggies and herbs that have good fats for the body.

Let’s have a look at its nutritional value. One serving of traditional Greek salad has 22 calories, of which 6g of protein, 13gm of carbs, and 15gm of fat are included. Also, 25mg of cholesterol, 370 mg of sodium, 5.1g of protein, and 238mg of potassium are present in the entire recipe.

Ingredients

Greek salad ingredients are very common. Lots of vegetables, especially, tomatoes and other crunchy vegetables are the main highlight of this recipe.

Let us cite them for you one by one here.

For dressing:

  • Olive oil: ¼ cup
  • Vinegar: 3 tablespoons
  • Salt: as per your taste, or ¼ teaspoon
  • Black pepper: just a sprinkle
  • Garlic clove: 1 (minced)
  • Dried oregano: half teaspoon
  • Dijon mustard: ¼ teaspoon

For salad:

  • Cucumber: 1 diced thickly, approximately ¼ inch
  • Green bell pepper: diced roughly, approximately 1-inch
  • Cherry tomatoes: 2 cups, halved
  • Red onion: 1/3 cup, finely sliced
  • Feta cheese: 5 ounces, diced roughly in ½ inch cubes
  • Kalamata olives: 1/3 cup
  • Mint leaves: 1/3 cup

Procedure

The Greek salad recipe is as easy as ABC. In our opinion, this is THE easiest recipe for Greek salad. It involves only two steps!!

  1. Mix all the ingredients for Greek salad dressing in a bowl. Whisk them together to get the flavors of all dry and liquid ingredients mixed well. Greek salad dressing is the ‘cherry on top’ that gives the real flavor to the roughly diced vegetables.
  2. On a platter, or if you like, in a bowl, add all the diced vegetables and feta cheese. Sprinkle the prepared dressing all over the veggies and toss them gently.
  3. Top them with mint leaves for presentation and serving to the guests.

You can further season it with additional salt and pepper to give some final touches to your Greek salad as easy as boiling an egg!

You can add chicken to Greek salad, although it is not part of the authentic recipe. Greek salad with chicken is good for those who are watchful of their proteins. Lean meat is a good source of the protein energy that is required for muscle build-up. Greek salad with chicken is not the authentic source of the recipe, however, as mentioned earlier, you can add ingredients as per your liking.

A simple side: Several options can go as side dishes with Greek salad. For example, baked potatoes or wedges, fried eggplant, and onions dipped in vinegar are some of the ways to serve it in style! If you want to make it more presentable, you can add humus, garlic bread, salsa and tortilla chips, grilled corn on the cob, roasted vegetables, grilled chicken (if you haven’t made a Greek salad with chicken and people might want to add proteins to their serving), and pasta if you want to make it a wholesome meal.
